Book Donations to the Library
Thank you for thinking of the Boxford Town Libraries
Our apologies to those of you who
were disappointed that the book sale was cut short this year. Due to the rain,
we had to close the book sale at about 11:30 AM. Unfortunately, the rain damaged
most of the books we had out for sale. Those of you who know books, know that
moisture and books don't mix! We lost a significant amount of money, but there
was really no other choice at that time. We appreciate those of you who took
advantage of our 4 for $1 "Rain Sale" while it was still sprinkling!
We managed to salvage some of the
children's books and are offering them for sale along with our regular on-going
book sale. Please stop by and see if there isn't something you'd like to have.
Thank you for your understanding.
We plan to hold another book sale at the 2008 Apple Festival. See you then!
We prefer GENTLY USED current fiction, nonfiction, children's books,
videos/DVDs/music CDs. We cannot take Reader's Digest Condensed books, old
encyclopedias, magazine or anything musty, moldy or damaged. Basically, if
you wouldn't purchase it for yourself, it is unlikely anyone else will, either.
Remember, printed materials can be recycled in Boxford (remove the covers off of
hardcover books).
Current best sellers are always a welcome donation to the
library. If we need them, we'll add them to the collection. If we
already have enough copies, we'll sell it in our ongoing book sale in the front
foyer. Money from these sales is used to purchase more books.
We
cannot assign a monetary value to the books you donate. We can supply a receipt
listing the number of hardcover and paperback books you donate if you wish to
use it for tax purposes.
Here
are some other suggestions for your used books.
-
Used books in good condition may be brought to the Haverhill
Public Library, 978-373-1586 or Memorial Hall Library in Andover,
978-623-8400. These libraries have multiple book sales during the year.
Please call the libraries before dropping off items.
-
Out of date print materials may be recycled in the Town of
Boxford. For example, after the hard covers are torn off the book and
placed in the trash, the inside pages can be tied up or placed in paper bags
for curbside recycling. Paperback books can be placed directly in your
recycling bin.

Got Books? accepts donations of ALL BOOKS,
AUDIO BOOKS, VIDEOS, CDs and DVDs. This group operates a drop off
facility in Billerica (29 Cook Street, Billerica, 978-664-6555) weekdays
from 8am-5pm, but they will also pick up from individual homes, businesses,
libraries and municipal sites. Community Book Solutions is a for
profit company working with non-profits. There is no charge for this
service. For more information please contact
http://www.gotbooks.com.
-
Non-fiction and text books that still have value may be sent
to Africa through an organization called "Hands Across the Water".
Books must be packed in boxes with closed lids. They may be brought to the
North Andover DPW on Osgood Street on the 3rd Saturday of each month between
9 and 12 noon. Call 978-685-0950 x15 for directions or access
www.surplussbooksforhcarity.org for other drop-off locations.
