Boxford Town Library Technology Plan Professional Development Strategy All staff members are trained on the ILS, databases available to staff and
the public and other software programs that are necessary to satisfactorily do
their jobs. A “Technology Skills Assessment” was administered to the staff in
2005 to get a sense of where everyone was in their knowledge of hardware,
software, internet searching techniques and some office applications. The
results of the assessment have been used to develop a training/skills matrix for
the staff. Training sessions offered by the MVLC and at the Northeast
Massachusetts Regional Library System (NMRLS) are used to increase knowledge of
technology. Examples of NMRLS courses are: “More Than Basic Microsoft Word:
Templates, Macros, and Mail Merge”, “Database Training: InfoTrac, eLibrary,
Grolier, WorldCat, etc”, “The Digital Media Players on Your PC (or your
library's public workstations!)”, “Digital Media on the Web: Music, Audiobooks!”
and “The New Floppy Disks: USB drives, CDs, and DVDs”. Training courses offered
on the Internet are also be used to increase staff skills. |
